EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

MIDTOWN, INC.
Columbus, Georgia

MidTown Columbus is an area of over nine square miles in the heart of Columbus, Georgia. Radiating from Wynnton Road into six historic neighborhoods (one of the largest contiguous historic districts in the United States), MidTown incorporates—in addition to its residential neighborhoods—nine public schools, numerous parks and public greenspaces, the Columbus Museum, the Columbus Public Library, the Muscogee County Public Education Center, commercial office and retail districts, and the international headquarters for Aflac. MidTown is presently home to some 22,000 residents living in over 10,000 households; and its proximity to Ft. Benning makes it an especially attractive retail and residential area for the 27,000 new residents who will move into the region through the Federal Base Realignment and Closure Act.

MidTown, Inc. was founded in 2006 by a diverse group of individuals who shared a common vision for a revitalized community in the heart of Columbus, Georgia. In a relatively short time, MidTown, Inc. has established itself as an effective and sustainable community renewal organization. The MidTown Champions Campaign raised $1.2 million in broad-based support—from large corporations and national foundations, local businesses, family charitable foundations and individual residents and stakeholders. The MT staff has expanded to include three full-time professionals: the Executive Director, the Director of Community Affairs, and the Director of Programs. The MidTown Business Association has grown to over 100 members, features its own distinctive website and e-newsletter and hosts monthly educational meetings for its members. When MidTown, Inc. began its neighborhood outreach efforts there were three existing neighborhood associations in MidTown: there are now nineteen neighborhood associations. Transportation enhancements facilitated by MidTown, Inc. include the completed pedestrian-friendly and green intersection of Peacock and Brown Avenues at Wynnton Road, and the design and ongoing implementation of a Wynnton Road Corridor Revitalization Plan funded by GDOT and grant monies. MidTown, Inc. has undertaken regional retail and watershed studies that will be of significant long-term benefit to potential developers and the businesses and residents of the area. MidTown, Inc.—through the ongoing efforts of its staff and volunteer Board of Directors, residents and business owners—is continually working to revitalize a vibrant MidTown Columbus. MidTown, Inc.’s founding Executive Director, Teresa Tomlinson, has recently resigned her position and is running for Mayor of Columbus.

MidTown, Inc. seeks a creative and dynamic new Executive Director to lead the non-profit community renewal organization in developing and implementing ambitious efforts to sustain and enhance the neighborhoods and businesses within MidTown Columbus. The ideal candidate will possess experience in urban planning and economic and/or real estate development, demonstrated communication and advocacy skills, along with the strong leadership and interpersonal skills essential to working successfully with MidTown’s diverse constituents and stakeholders. The Executive Director is responsible for the overall administration and management of MidTown, Inc.’s three-person staff, $400,000 annual budget, and ongoing program development, fundraising, and community relations efforts. The organization’s website is: www.midtowncolumbusga.org.
