East Highlands < return

East Highlands is a historic residential neighborhood located to the south of Talbotton Road in MidTown's northwest corner with houses reflecting popular architectural styles ranging from Victorian to Craftsman. Developed as a working class neighborhood during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries with a range of modest to moderately sized houses, East Highlands once extended east of Wildwood Park to Wynnton Road. A streetcar line carrying passengers from Wildwood Park (Weracoba Park) began in 1887 and promoted the area's development. East Highlands northeast section was one of Columbus' early African-American communities.
