Dinglewood Historic District < return

The Dinglewood Historic District—a small gem of a residential neighborhood— developed from an antebellum estate.  In 1857, Colonel Joel Early Hurt purchased 30 acres of land for his house; the Italianate-style Dinglewood was completed in 1859.  The estate remained intact until it was subdivided into single-family residential lots between 1917 and 1946.  The district includes fine examples of architectural styles including Italianate, English Vernacular Revival and Colonial Revival styles.
